18. Troubleshooting
Status shows "Offline"
- Verify that the ESTË Live server is running
- Check that the macOS firewall allows connections on port 3001
- If using an external browser, verify you are on the same WiFi network
Musicians cannot connect
- Verify that the Mac and phones are on the same WiFi network
- Open the QR code dialog and check the IP address
- Try using the IP address instead of the hostname
- Check that the macOS firewall is not blocking port 3001:
- System Preferences → Network → Firewall → Options → Allow incoming connections for ESTË Live
- Some mobile hotspots isolate devices from each other — use a dedicated WiFi router
Crackling audio or dropouts
- Increase the buffer size in settings (e.g., from 128 to 256 samples)
- Close other applications using audio
- Verify the audio interface is connected via direct USB (not a hub)
- Check the sample rate (must match the interface setting)
Faders move but audio doesn't change
- Check that the channel is not muted (M button)
- Check that no other channel is in Solo (S button)
- Verify that Panic is not active
- Check the I/O mapping in settings
Meters don't move
- Verify the audio interface is correctly selected in settings
- Check the input channel mapping
- Try reloading the page (F5 or Cmd+R in the browser)
Regions won't load
- Verify that a tempo source is configured (Manual or MIDI File)
- Check the CSV format (see section 12.1 for the expected format)
- Verify that BPM is > 0
- If using a MIDI source, make sure the MIDI file is loaded before the regions
App won't start
- Verify system requirements (macOS 12+)
- Try deleting the
~/ESTE/.logs/ folder and restarting
- Check Console.app for error messages
- If the problem persists, delete
~/ESTE/ and restart (this recreates the configuration from scratch)
