Overview

This policy covers the ESTË suite of apps: ESTË - LIVE and ESTË - STUDIO (native macOS applications for live IEM mix management and track preparation) and ESTË - METRONOME (a metronome for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch). All ESTË apps are designed to operate on your own devices and your local network. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Shared Principles

Every ESTË app is built the same way when it comes to your data:

  • No user accounts or registration required
  • No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers
  • No cookies or fingerprinting
  • No data is sold, rented, or shared with third parties
  • Your content stays on your devices and your local network

The sections below describe the specifics for each app.

ESTË - LIVE macOS

ESTË - LIVE communicates exclusively over your local WiFi network (LAN) using WebSocket connections. This communication includes:

  • Mixer control data (fader positions, mute/solo states)
  • Audio meter levels
  • Transport state (play/stop/record)

This data never leaves your local network and is not persisted beyond the active session.

Audio files, recordings, songs, and project data are stored locally on your Mac in the ~/ESTË/ directory. They are never uploaded or transmitted externally.

ESTË - LIVE writes diagnostic log files to ~/ESTË/.logs/. These logs contain technical information such as audio device configuration, error messages, and session events. They contain no personal data, are never transmitted externally, and can be deleted at any time.

ESTË - STUDIO macOS

ESTË - STUDIO operates entirely offline with no network communication. Audio clips, MIDI, tempo maps, regions, and project data are stored locally on your Mac in the same ~/ESTË/ directory shared with ESTË - LIVE, and are never uploaded or transmitted externally. ESTË - STUDIO writes the same kind of local, non-personal diagnostic logs to ~/ESTË/.logs/.

ESTË - METRONOME iOS · iPadOS · watchOS

ESTË - METRONOME runs on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, requires no account, and shows no ads. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not present an App Tracking Transparency prompt, and requests no microphone or music-library access.

  • Local persistence (SwiftData). Your tempos, accent patterns, sound settings, setlists, and preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data stays on your device.
  • Apple Watch sync (WatchConnectivity). The iPhone and Apple Watch versions of the app communicate directly with each other over Apple's WatchConnectivity framework to keep tempo and transport in sync. This communication happens only between your own paired devices and never leaves them.
  • Ableton Link (local tempo sync). ESTË - METRONOME supports Ableton Link to synchronize tempo with other Link-enabled apps and devices on the same local network. When you enable Link, the app discovers nearby peers using Bonjour service discovery (service type _ableton-link._udp) and exchanges timing information over UDP multicast on your local network. This exchange is peer-to-peer between devices on your network and contains only tempo and beat-timing data — no personal data and no device identifiers beyond what is technically required for discovery. See "Third-Party Software" below.

Local network permission. Because Ableton Link relies on local-network discovery, iOS will ask for your permission to access devices on your local network the first time you enable Link. If you deny or never enable Link, no local-network activity takes place.

Updates. ESTË - METRONOME is distributed and updated through the Apple App Store. We do not run our own update server for it.

Third-Party Software

ESTË - LIVE and ESTË - STUDIO do not integrate with any third-party services, advertising networks, or cloud platforms.

ESTË - METRONOME embeds one third-party software component: LinkKit, the official Ableton Link SDK from Ableton AG, used solely to provide local-network tempo synchronization. LinkKit operates peer-to-peer on your local network and does not send any data to Ableton or to us. It is the only third-party SDK in the app, and it powers only the optional Ableton Link feature.

Website

This website (este.audio) is a static site. It does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics services.

Children's Privacy

ESTË apps do not collect any personal data from anyone, including children. No information is gathered regardless of the user's age.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
